Boll Weivels & Flax Seed

Lately, I've added flax seed to my diet.  My doctor said it would help me mellow my mood.  I googled it.  It said nothing about mood enhancement, but I'm still eating it.  Up until this week, I usually just dip my banana end in it and munch away.  It's good.  But, this week I tried just sprinkling it on my grape-nuts cereal.  I only eat things in the morning that could have a double entendre.

So, anyway when I sprinkled that flax seed on my cereal, it really brought back memories from childhood. This flax seed looks EXACTLY like boll weevils, only without the fuzzy little legs, that we would sometimes get in our cereal because we lived out in farm country and that just happened on occasion.

So, all week I've been munching along and then UGH! oh, wait.  It's not bugs. Whew.  Continue eating.

All Sunshine on a Rainy Day

Today, I am happier.  I took yesterday off.  Completely off.

As soon as my children left for school, my friend Abs showed up in her jeep and I hopped in.  We headed downtown Houston for the day, raining cats and dogs and all.

We had decided that a day on Westheimer was in store and we would shop every antique/junk shop that we happened upon.  We did that and more!

The first store that we stopped at was Berings.  http://www.berings.com/  I love Berings.  It's like the old hardware store on steroids.  They do it the right way.  With the bridal registry for china and crystal on one side and the nuts and bolts on the other side, and everything else you could imagine in between.  Abs and I snacked on chocolate truffles, I had cappachino and she had a tiramisu.  Oh, they were good!  We both bought some Easter basket goodies and debated over other good items like an electric teacup warmer and real sturdy fire pit.  Such a good store!

Then our first Antique Store was the best one!  We both scored some hot items.  I got an old print that is just like one my grandfather had of an old hunter with a rabbit in his mouth and the hound dog looking on in wonder.  And Abs got a book about the town that she just found out that her family is from, by the leading author on the town.

We shopped a bunch of other stores in the rain, seeing many treasures for other people's houses.  And our last treasure spot, we met a lovely older gentleman that could wear a toupee like nobody's business.  We both thought we should purchase something from him just for being so wonderful, but it was all rather expensive.  So, instead we chose to patron the restaurant of his advice.  It was a gamble.  We knew it would be either fabulous or mushy.  He was fabulous, but older.  And after many turns through the same light, we found the restaurant and it was fabulous!  http://www.babayega.com/  Oh, a return trip is on the menu!!!  The buffet was the best buffet I ever had!  Beef stroganoff, Pecan crusted salmon, devine salads, and a peanut butter dessert that made you so thankful that God gave you taste buds and this dessert to touch them.  The atmosphere was grand, too.  You felt like you were sitting just on the edge of a beautiful garden in a cozy study, with the doors wide open.  Oh, how nice it was!

Then we headed home, as it was getting close to time to pick up the children.

At home I took a little rest, watching a 30 minute show that I had dvr'ed.  And then it was off for Jr. Girl Scout adventure.  We took the little darlings to the Animal Shelter.  http://www.mcaspets.org/ They forgot we were coming, but gave us the best guide we could have ever had.  He just took us promptly back to the small dog room and let the girls oh & ah over all of them.  He even let 2 out to run and scamper around the girls.  They all had a good time.  I'm surprised I didn't take some home.  It's always so tempting.  Then we all used some hand sanitizer and headed to Gigi's cupcakes for snacks. http://www.gigiscupcakesusa.com/meetourcupcakes   Sugar them up and send them home, I always say!

Then we went home and M took us out for super to P.F. Chang's. http://www.pfchangs.com/index.aspx  We hadn't been there as a family before, two were new to this restaurant.  So, everyone really enjoyed the family meal!  It was fun and took us out of our doldrums.

OH, just saw the time.  Got to go!  Back to everything that I avoided, today!

So Much for Diets and Stuff Like That

So much for diets and stuff like that.  Today, I was thinking, I'd jump back on the diet bandwagon.  I made it so far as 2 glasses of water.  Then I dipped into creamer in my coffee, a friend coming to work and bringing me cupcakes for lunch, coming home eating an old dagwood sandwich that still tasted fine, and some more coffee creamer, and did I mention the diet soda.  Yep, and now I'm avoiding any thought of exercise.  I'm blaming it on the weather, but really it's my attitude.  I just don't feel like it.
______________
Other things...I'm turning 40 in two-weeks-ish.  I'm just not super excited about it.  I'm trying to be.  Everyone wants me to plan a party and be festive.  I just don't have it in me.  Everything I think of involves me working extra hard and everyone else having fun.  I don't know.  I want to be selfish for my 40th, doing something I like, that sounds fun to me.  But, there seems to be so much going on for everyone else, that nothing I come up with sounds that great.  So, I'm left with people saying..."what are you doing for your birthday?"...and all I know is "uh, I'll think about that tomorrow."
______________
Speaking of, my 16th wedding anniversary is this Friday.  Thankfully, we have a date lined out and I just don't really have to think about any planning.  We're going to see William Shatner, whom we both love.  So, that will be good and is something I'm looking forward to doing.  Otherwise, I'm sure it would be a let's order pizza and watch whatever re-runs are on tv if it was left up to me this time.  It doesn't seem right, but it's the truth.
________________
I used to be excited about so many things.  So, many little things.  And I am still excited about things.  Don't start preaching to me that it's my own fault, I know this.  I know it's my own attitude that sets the direction of the path I choose.  I'm just saying how I feel.  And lately, I've been trying to find my cheerleader spirit.  But, it's hard when you are dealing with a lot of old stuff that you thought was behind you and a bunch of new stuff that you didn't anticipate.

Nothing bad, just life.  Regular old life.  And quite honestly, my life is wonderful.  We have food, clothing, a house, lots of material stuff, friends, family, God.    All that stuff everyone wants in life.  But we have other things,  health issues, work changes, decisions to make, knowledge of people that we love hurting, knowing you cannot make things better and that you have to let things just happen, questions of people's faith and where did it go, dealing with people that push your buttons, wondering why doesn't everyone just love others unconditionally, why are there so many conditions in the world, being given 2nd opportunities at things you didn't want to do the first time around, going back to old ways in so many things and having thought we had outgrown them, wondering why I'm still in the exact same spot I was in a year ago after working so hard to change.  Like I said, nothing bad. Just life, regular old life.

And my life is one thousand times better than I should have, and I am blessed.  Don't get me wrong.  I am very thankful for all that I have.  I know how blessed God has made me.  I just have this moment where there is a little time to myself and I've had to ponder where I'm at and wonder where I'm going.

More from Spring Break in the Driveway

Our wisteria (totally misspelled) was purple lovely.
See the cardinal in the pic?
And our neighbors lovely azaleas in full bloom.

One of my squirrel friends scampering by.
He ran under my chair once.
I wan't too keen on that.

My squirrel friend's within arms reach.
They love to sit at the bistro table in the chairs and eat.

Such a brave squirrel.
He doesn't know I ate his cousin when I was a child.

Yep! That's GREEN pizza for St. Paddy's Day.
A new tradition.
I love this pizza place even more now!
Kitty Helping Little Bit finish her book that she had to read over Spring Break.
Such a good Kitty, but I think he napped a little while she read.

Spring Break=Fighting for Bandwidth

I have been fighting for Bandwidth all Spring Break.
But, tonight Little Bit has gone bowling & Big Kid to the movies,
so I can upload and surf and listen to music a little faster.
I hope your having a good Spring Break.
I'm sitting outside,
fixing to go pick up some pizza,
reading the Lowe's Creative Ideas Magazine,
looking at my squirrel friends,
surfing on my computer,
soaking up the good air.
I hope your night is just as fine,
if not better.

To conclude...
a few pics from
Friday Coffee
Spring Break Style
with a friend's birthday mixed in for good measure.

Enjoy the final days of Spring Break.
Summer is just around the corner.

Spring Break

Climbing the tree out front.
The day we went to the eye doctor.
Her eyes dilate in a major way!

The cute puppy dog look.

We went and played frisbee golf.
It was fun.

Big Kid was the best player.

M got his frisbee stuck in the mud.
This was a long shot and then it landed on its side.

My kids dressed very similar and didn't even realize it.
I like that Big Kid can text while playing frisbee golf.

Posed shot.

Another posed shot.

today

Well, Spring Break is upon us. And we are just lolly-gagging.  All plans were shot, so now we're just milling around.  Sleeping in late, inviting the neighbors in to visit, working on lots of homework, watching the garden grow, making lax plans of go-karting and other mini-adventures, waiting on my turn in the shower, riding the bike up for donuts in the "morning", listening to the clock tick on the wall while the cat sits on the couch cushion right over my shoulder trying to edge me up so I'll do something...forget it, Cat.

new plans

Ok. I've been thinking about this for a long time.  I think it's time I build a photo booth.  I'm not sure how I'm going to make this happen, but I'm sure I don't want to buy one.  They are expensive to rent, so I'm sure they are even more expensive to buy.  So, build one...it is.
________
Other news...I traveled back to Arkansas this past week to say goodbye.  Sad. But, ok.
_________
It's Spring Break here. So my children are still sleeping in.  It's 11:01 a.m.  The latest they have ever slept.  I'm trying to be quite.  M just woke up 15 minutes ago.  I've been up since 8 a.m., the latest I've slept in a long while.
_________
Today I am going outside to look at the quasi-garden.  We shall see what has grown.
_________
Anyone want to come and clean my house?  Me, neither.
_________
I snail mailed some vanilla coffee pods on clearance to myself from Arkansas.  I received them yesterday.  It's amazing how little things in life can make me so very happy.

Happy JAVA INFUSED SPRING BREAK!

Spring has Sprung

This purple flower bush has almost finished blooming.  It has been very fragrant.

Bridal Bush

Azaleas

Forsythia

Our neighbor's Red Bud Tree is gorgeous.
I'm really glad they put this outside my kitchen window.

These are the blooms for our Wisteria.

And I bought myself some napkins yesterday.
How can napkins make someone so happy?
