New Years Resolutions 2009

As Mrs. Slocum would say, "And I am unanimous in this."

  1. To be more entertaining in 2009.
  2. To learn more and share my knowledge with my children more in 2009.
  3. To not think that playing the pull my finger joke as being entertaining.
  4. Also, not to think that teaching my children how to Saran wrap the toilet seat as being both entertaining and educational, thus checking two items off my list at once.
  5. To attend a tent revival.
  6. To dance to music like Madonna more often.
  7. To close the shades on the windows when shaking my groove thing, even if it would count towards being more entertaining.
  8. To spend more time doing important things on the computer than facebook, myspace, emailing jokes and just surfing around looking at things I don't really plan to buy.
  9. To figure out what "doing more important things" means.
  10. Accept that if being me is cool with me, then I shouldn't be concerned so much if it's not cool for everyone else.
  11. Listen more to my children.
  12. Stop and smell all the flowers. O.K. more realistic...stop and smell the good smelling flowers like the roses. Let's face it marigolds stink.
  13. Ride my bike for exercise more.
  14. Not count riding my bike to the closest Starbucks for the Grande Mocha with Whip Cream as exercise.
  15. Finish getting my pilot's licence.
  16. Take M up for a ride.
  17. Hold hands with M more.
  18. Be nice to people more.
  19. Not count saying nice things, but thinking mean things as being nice.
  20. Play with my children more.
  21. Play things that my children want to play, not just want I want to play.
  22. Relax.
  23. Try to just be better.

The Word

A conversation:

Out of the Blue...
Little Bit: "My shirt has a tear in it. Isn't that terrible? Get it? Tear-ible?"
Me: "Who told you that?"
Little Bit: "I made it up."
Me: "That was good."
________
Little Bit was drinking her soda quickly because it was foaming up at the dinner table.
Big Kid: "Jug! Jug! Jug! Jug!"
Me: "I think you mean Chug, chug, chug, chug!"
Big Kid: "Oh."

Homework

Little Bit and her homework answers. She had to write a sentence with each of her spelling words. My two favorite:

Pain: I have a pain in the neck.

Drain: A chocolate bar went down the drain.

She found both of these sentences to be very funny and so did I.

dear aunt chelle

Can I have the tooth fairy leave me some money under my pillow? I don't have any teeth to give. I'll give her an IOU for when I'm eighty and have false teeth..Aunt chelle

Dear Aunt Chelle- Well, I left the tooth fairy a note under my pillow last night. She left a note and it said that she'd be happy to work out a deal with you, but that she'd have to leave less money as your teeth are older. ahahahahahahahaha!!! later-cb
ps do you still love me? :)

Christmas Smoke Break

Alright! I have to take a break on my Christmas decorating. I just almost knocked myself out in the tight corner of the attic dragging out Christmas figurines. I went to stand up and clunked my head on the roof beam. I thought I'd just keep working until I realized that i was dizzy. So, I'm taking a break. Wouldn't it be weird to pass out in the attic?

the Christmas Season

So, we open an advent calendar every morning of advent...and Little Bit says: "Hey, Dad! Come here! You haven't opened your Alvin calendar yet!" I think she's been watching too much Alvin and the Chipmunks lately.

the tooth fairy visits

Well, the day before yesterday Little Bit lost a tooth.

Little Bit: "I just bit into this orange and it came out!"
It was the outside of the orange on the peel, and it sure did come out and was really looking like maybe it was still a little early with all the blood. But, I said nothing since she didn't seem to mind.

Later that night talking with her dad (M):
Little Bit: "Yes, I lost my meat tooth."
M: "Your what?"
Little Bit: "mmhm, my meat tooth, see!"
M: "Oh, your canine tooth. I think the canine is on the top."
Little Bit: "I eat meat with this tooth. It was my meat tooth."
M: "Oh."

Next morning, as she's walking down the stairs already talking to us in bed:
Little Bit: "...I had my hand on my tooth the whole time. And then I guess the tooth fairy just went like POOF! and then she took my tooth. And then it was gone and I had this money..."

Later that morning visiting about the tooth:
Little Bit: "Is the tooth fairy a girl or a man?"
Me: "I don't know. I've never seen the tooth fairy. The tooth fairy visited you last night, what do you think?"
Little Bit: "I think my tooth fairy is a girl and Big Kid's tooth fairy is a boy. I think girls get girl tooth fairies and boys get boy tooth fairies."
Me: "Maybe. What do you think the tooth fairy does with all those teeth?"
Little Bit: "Hmmm...I think she takes them and gives them to her pet puppies who don't have teeth yet. Yeah, she gives her baby pets them so that they will have teeth."
Me: "Makes sense to me."

Mother May I makes for a great game to play while waiting for the doctor to come to the room. Update:
Big Kid, the cough should go away with the use of over the counter medicine, yea! If not, by Friday, then the dr. is calling in the big stuff.
Little Bit: We just have to keep putting warm compresses on the eye bump and hopefully it will all go away. We're still seeing the eye dr. just in case, the gp dr. said.
So, all is good. They're outside playing in the nice cool air and enjoying the good weather.

thought #82

While putting out the Santa Cups on the plate rail above the cabinets in my kitchen, I noticed that it is really dusty up there. I've decided not to climb up there anymore.

get on the bus, gus- quote from somebody's song

Well, we missed the school bus today. It wouldn't have been so bad, but the kids saw the bus. The bus waited until the kids were only about 1/2 a block away, then it drove off. I'm sure the bus driver and other parents at the stop just didn't see them. Big Kid looked sad, and Little Bit just started crying loudly and saying things like, "I'm never riding that bus again."
Me: "But, you can ride it this afternoon."
Little Bit: "I'm not going to. It left me. I'm never riding it again. I'm going to be a car rider."
Me: "I'm sorry you missed the bus, but don't worry I can drive you this morning and you can ride it in the afternoon. I know your friends ride it in the afternoon."
Little Bit: "Mom, just write me a note to be a car rider." Hmmph!

So, to make up for missing the bus, because I kind of feel like it was my fault. I wanted to wear a jacket. It's cold out, but i took my own sweet time. Anywho, to make up for it: I let them watch UnderDog on DVD on the way to school. Then I gave them each a dollar for the spirit cart to buy a pencil at school.

so how was your morning?

I never thought I'd grow up to say to my children in the morning: "Quit hitting each other with your aliens!", but this morning I did.

__________

Little Bit also woke up crying because her alarm cat didn't meow her awake. So, I pushed some buttons and put in on manuel, so it would meow. She said it wasn't "a real meow!", took alarm cat and threw him across the bed. Ah, a plesant way to start the day. That was before the blow up Roswell alien fights.

______________

Today I also made my children stop and smell the flower. No, really I did. We grew some flowers in pots in our kitchen. One finally bloomed and it smelled good.

lucky day

Big Kid shoves his hands in his pockets of the clean blue jeans he just put on. He coughs. He gets a big smile on his face and pulls out the right hand out of his pocket with a dollar bill waving.

Big Kid: "Look! I just coughed up a dollar!"

Then after a minute.
Big Kid: "I didn't know I had that dollar in there. I just reached my hand in my pocket and felt like this vanilla paper and pulled it out. And there it was. That dollar."

Sound like it's going to be a lucky day.

rain, rain go away. come again some other day

Well, Sports Fans, for those of you who are not aware, I've been busy living out my dream in life last week and this week. And I'm going to Ground School in order to prepare myself to take the written part of the private pilot licence. YIPIEE!!! After ground school, then I will start flying with an instructor for 20+ hours. Then solo for 20+ hours. Then WATCH OUT! I'll be out flying the friendly skies in a single engine airplane with a normal cruising speed of 90 knots. ahahahahaaaaa!!! I'm excited.

__________
Deer Widow Weekend: was Goooooodddd!!! Here's what I did on Saturday: Got up with Little Bit and my friend Margo and ate a full leisurely breakfast. Went to the spa and had a manicure/pedicure/facial. Went to Mel's Seafood and had hot crab dip for appetizer and an fried oyster po-boy for dinner. Went to Margo's and hot-tubed out under the stars. Went inside and watched Garfield the Cat movie on television. It was fantastic and worth the 6 hour drive up and back. But, I think it would be a better trip in a C-152, or at least faster. O.K. Yes, it would definately be better. Who am I kidding?

an in line kind of day

Well, I early voted today. And guess what, it was a 15 minute wait in line...for Early voting. I cannot imagine what it will be like tomorrow. I talked with a few people today that said the lines have been crazy. Like people standing in a long line outside waiting for them to unlock the doors to vote and such as that. M voted yesterday afternoon at Mitchell Library and said he went right up to vote. I think not as many people know about early voting at the library.

My only complaint is they didn't have the "I voted" stickers. I love those things. It's like the "I gave blood stickers." These stickers show that you're a better citizen than the rest of you slackers, so you better get out and vote or give me your blood. ahahahaha...I want my sticker!

__________

So, I went to Starbucks again today. And let me say that the line voting was much shorter than the Starbucks line. I may have to retract my previous Starbucks post. But, I think really I just went to a different one and the weather has turned cooler making everyone think they need the hot coffee. Still people at Starbucks are friendly. And really if your going into a Starbucks, let's face it, you're going in to take a break from the world.
_________
ooops. That's the phone. I'm off to take that Elvis costume up to the school for a friend to borrow.

Happy Wednesday! Don't forget to vote!

I've lost my camera. so until i find it again, you will be getting clip art. Today, it's a cat with a jack-o-lantern.

this reminds me of last night...

M came in with one of my fake foam pumpkins that I used to decorate the yard for the Fall.

M: "Are you going to use this pumpkin for anything?"

Well, I was using it for decorating the yard, but hey he's going somewhere with this. Are we just carving plastic pumpkins this year. Have we run out of time? I really like toasted pumpkin seeds. Especially with this cooler weather. Oh, wait, he's looking for an answer. Back to reality.

Me: "You want it for something?"
M: "Yes."
Me: "Did you want to carve the foam pumpkins this year, instead of real pumpkins?"
M: "No."
Me: "o.k. You can use it. What are you going to do?"
M: "Carve it."
Me: "o.k."
M: "Do you think light will shine through this well?"
Me: "Yes. They usually do."
M: "o.k."

30 minutes later, M is outside on a ladder with his newly carved pumpkin. He shoved it over the porch light outside and it looks good and scary.

Happy Friday!

YEA!!! Today is the second day of feeling good in about a month!!! YIPIEE!!!

_____________

This morning I awake to squeeeek! Thump! I hear a door opening and closing. It's Little Bit and 6.30 a.m. Ususally, she gets up around 7.15 a.m. after I wake her. I go upstairs to see what's going on. There she is dressed for school in her new outfit that we purchased last night and playing with her new toys that we got last night.

Me: "Little Bit, you doing ok?"

Little Bit: "Yes. I'm just playing with my toys. Look he's king of the world."

She places her little mouse on top of his toy dresser.

Me: "I see your already dressed for school."

Little Bit: "Yes. It's bus day."

Me: "O.K. Well, good job."

Big Kid woke up right after that and got ready quickly, too.

I think every day might have to become bus day.
______________

I like Starbucks. I really don't mind paying that arm and leg for their coffee for this reason: atmosphere. They play good soothing tunes, that everyone seems to like. The smell of coffee is fantastic to breath in on a sleepy morning. The lighting and decorations are calm and inviting. They usually employ laid, back happy people that enjoy working there and engaging in light conversation. They have cool little knick-knacks to browse around and look at. And you are welcome to just hang out there and relax all day if you want. I like it. Oh, and the coffee is good, too. I like it.

some days start out odd

This morning my man M caught himself somethin'.

Yes. I know you're thinking to yourself right now, "an odd statement, perhaps I should delve in a little bit further." Perhaps, you should me thinks.

Little Bit: "EEEEEEeeee. He caught one, caught one."
Little Bit jumped up on one leg, as I was tying the shoe at the end of the other leg.
Little Bit: "EEEEEeeeee...Daddy! Daddy! You caught one!!! You caught one!"
She runs to the window and smears her face against the glass, creating a little fog near where her mouth touched it.

From upstairs:
M: "What!?! I caught one."
Big Kid: "He caught one? Wait, wait. I'm coming."
They start trumping down the stairs, jumping a few steps in their hurry.
Me: "Yes. You've caught the squirrel."

It all started a couple of days ago. M had gone on a business trip to Austin and then out to Sweetwater, Texas. He came home proud and excited about the trip out to the middle of the dry, windy land of Texas. He had been out looking at windmills. And I should have thought of this, when he came home and proudly announced he had brought us a gift. It was a rather long box, so I couldn't imagine what jewel might be in it. Of course in all of my imagination, I never once guessed what it was. Gently, proudly M opened up the box to show us all who were waiting in great anticipation, as to what it was. Ta-daaaaa! A live animal trap. "See kids, you set it up like this and put in the food and then SNAP! it's trapped." Everyone's eyes got real big. "Don't worry. It's a Live trap. It doesn't hurt them. We'll just see what we can catch and then look at it. Then we'll let it go."

So, this morning our first-live-trap-look-see animal was Bronson our pet squirrel. He's not really a pet. He just hangs out, eats Bark's dog food, and greets us in the morning when we're getting in our car. Well, Bronson was not too thrilled about being in this live trap. He wanted out in a major way.

I thought it would be best to look at Bronson from the window like I usually do. The kids bolted out the door behind M to get the best view. M, not wanting me to miss out on the closeness of the squirrel gone wild, brought Bronson in the cage for a closer look. Yep. He looks like a squirrel.

After about 5 more trips around the cage in less than 5 seconds, Bronson was taken back outside and set free. But, don't worry Bronson left us something to remember him by. A small pelet of poop in the kitchen. FANTASTIC. M took care of it. Then we all headed out the door to start our Monday.

How was the start of your week?

War Eagle Craft Fair

I couldn't figure out what was wrong with me the past couple of days.

I have drug out my beads and been making bracelets and necklaces like the world would come to an end without these hallowed trinkets. I've also been feeling like wearing funky, out-of-date, Autumn-inspired vests and going outside amongst regular dressed people. And I want something deep fat fried to eat.

Then I realized it...it's craft fair time. And my ALL favorite craft festival, is happening this weekend. http://www.wareaglemill.com/craftsfair.htm The War Eagle Craft fair is going to be taking place and I'll be missing it.

I used to go with my mom and my sisters and my mom's sister-in-law and sister and her daughters and my grandma. We'd all wear these homemade matching Fall festival vests. We'd eat things on a stick and buy things on a stick. It was so much fun in such a weird way.

So, in it's honor, this weekend I vow to:
  1. wear a vest
  2. eat kettle popcorn- but only a little, as my temporary crown (or my Fake, fake tooth as I like to call it) is bothering me.
  3. eat something on a stick - preferably a fresh dipped corn dog but I will make do with whatever I can find.
  4. put out some garish fall harvest decor and be really proud of it.

defeat

Time: 2.13 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 2nd. Defeat. I am not a plumber. going to try to put them back to the closest working order possible before m gets home. arrrrrrggghhhh.

things i learned today

  1. Caulk has an expiration date. So, I had to go back to Lowe's AGAIN and buy new caulk. It doesn't look that great, but I had a LOT to cover up as my shower is peeling and I don't want to pay for a new shower. It's inside the stall, so only family will be seeing it. Whatever.
  2. 3 inch thread is not made to hang light fixtures. It comes in 1 inch, 2 inch, 6 inch and 30 inch, but not 3 inch. It should be made in 3 inch to hang down the right amount under the medallion. But no, they include 2 1/2 inch with the medallion, just to make you crazy. Thankfully, I find a challenge exciting and no one has to see how I made it work underneath that medallion. Note: Be careful when changing the lights and NO hanging off the chandelier.
  3. A trip to Lowe's makes me purchase another project. I hung more trim over the brass on the closet door. I do like it better now.

what i did this week

Here's what I did this week while M was out of the country:
Big Kid's Room: New shelf, new chair, new bedding and rearranged and fluffed, check!
Little Bit's Room: New bedding, new chair, rearranged, all closet and toys and books cleaned out, and room fluffed: check!
Master Bedroom: new carpet runners by the bed: check!
Master Bathroom: new moulding around mirror: check! New curtains over the ugly closet doors: check! New drain and drain up, down thingy installed in tub: check! Shower: old caulk removed and mold removed and bleached: check! Old light fixture removed: Check!

Items left to do before M returns tomorrow afternoon for the suprise reveal:
Razorback bathroom: old faucet mainly removed, new faucet needs installed.
Master Bath: Caulk the shower. Finish removing old faucet and install new faucet on both sinks. Install medallion and new chandiller.
I'm sure I can get it done. Don't you think?

To save for a later day: Moulding over brass part on closet. Installation of faucet on tub.

Postitive

I can definitely cross plumber off my list of future careers.

seemed like a good idea at the time

OK. Sunday night it seemed like a great idea to freshen up the bathroom and bring it into this century. But, now with the faucet broken halfway off and I'm not strong enough to get it the rest of the way off. And half of the moldy caulk scraped out of the shower. And a curtain rod only halway assembled. And moulding that I think I might should have painted afterall. And a new light fixture to install. And three faucets and some knobs left to figure out, I'm starting to feel a little stressed, so...

I'm not so sure this was the best idea I had this week. Anywhich way, I have till Thursday to fix my mess. That's when my hubby returns home. oops! :)

i was wrong

I used to think that there could be no homework harder to explain than Kindergarten homework. Now I know better. Tonight I had to explain standard form and expanded form in math to my second grader. Then I had to explain greater than, less than and equal. I think my brain exploded.

All i'm sayin

All I'm sayin'...is good luck to the 4th grade teachers today. My kid is super excited to be heading to school today. It's like they are handing out free sticks and balls or something. Maybe they are having ice cream sundaes for lunch in the cafeteria. Whatever it is, it's nice to see he's excited about going to school.

commercial in question

OK. I'm watching the View and I just saw this commercial for a shampoo for lice called Lice MD. In the commercial they talk about how the shampoo not only gets rid of the lice, but also conditions the hair. Now, I don't know about you, but when I'm using a shampoo for lice I really don't believe that I will be worrying if it's conditioning my hair. I think I just want to know that it's killing those little buggers. Just a thought.

Birthday Talk

Tomorrow is Big Kid's birthday.

Me: "What kind of cake do you want for your birthday tomorrow, chocolate or white?"
Big Kid: "Well, I want mini-cupcakes."
Me: "O.K. what kind of mini-cupcakes, chocolate or white?"
Big Kid: "The ones with the icing."
Me: "Yes. Got that. O.K. Chocolate or White?"
Big Kid: "No the mini-brownies with icing and can you bring them to school?"
Me: "Yes, I can bring them to school. Wait, are you talking about the ones at Kroger?"
Big Kid: "Yes. They're good."
Me: "You want me to get the ones from Kroger and not make them?"
Big Kid: "Yes. I want the ones from Kroger. They're good."
Me: "Oh, o.k. Well, do you want me to make the cake for at home with the family?"
Big Kid: "Sure, if you want."
Me: "O.K. Chocolate or White?"
Big Kid: "Chocolate. But, for school get the mini-brownies from Kroger."
Me: "o.k."

Big Kid was not thrilled with the idea of moving his birthday party, but we didn't have much of a choice. So, he had been kind of not too happy about it lately. Last night, Big Kid's eyes got sparkly when he spotted two big wrapped presents in my bedroom.

Big Kid: "Are those for me?"
Me: "One is."
As I leave the room I hear the wrapping getting heavily fondled. Later, I'm in the dining room and I hear the wrapping paper being groped again.
Me: "Leave the present alone. I don't want you guessing what it is."
Big Kid, talking to his dad: "Watch this." He rubs his hands on the gift again.
Me: "I told you quit touching that gift."
Big Kid giggles and comes into the dining room.
Big Kid: "Do you have a camera?"
Me: "Yes. Do you want to borrow it for something?"
Big Kid: "No, I mean do you have a camera in your room? How do you see me playing with my present?"
Me: "I have eyes everywhere."
Big Kid: "Oh."

Later that night, after being tucked in bed as I was headed downstairs.
Big Kid: "If that one present is for me, then who is the other present for?"
Me: "One is for you and the other is for another boy you know."
Big Kid starts naming off all his friends.
Me, one after another: "No...nope...no."
Finally he guesses it: "Dad?"
Me: "Maybe." with a big smile, "Goodnight."
I head downstairs.
Big Kid: "Mommmmm, can you come back upstairs? I want to ask you something."
I trudge up the stairs again.
Me: "What is it?"
Big Kid: "Come here I need to whisper it."
Me, I get close: "O.K. What is it?"
Big Kid, in a hushed tone: "Tell me what you got Dad. I won't tell him."
Ahahahahahahahahaha. He was trying to trick me. Good for Big Kid!
Me, i whispered back: "I can't tell you, because then you would know your present. goodnight."

________
Time to run to Kroger and not make a cake. hee hee.

Dear Aunt chelle- Yes. I believe that I could use a peddling box, too. OK, now Aunt Chelle, no one is listening, go ahead and tell us who you would put in the peddling box and why! Be sure not to leave out any of the juicy details!!! We love Juice and Details! later-cb

over the breakfast muffins

Little Bit: "For my birthday are you going to buy me that Barbie car?"
Little Bit wants one of those electric ride on toys for her birthday.
Me: "I don't know if we can get that for you. It's rather expensive."

Little Bit sits there for a moment.
Little Bit: "O.K. If you can't get it, that's ok. I'll ask Dad to get it."

Little Bit's birthday is a mere 50 days away.

The peddling box

Last night Little Bit said she didn't want to go to school today. Our conversation:

Little Bit with a big pout: "I don't want to go to school tomorrow!"
Me: "Well, you have to go back to school. It's not my rules. It's the state of Texas."
Little Bit: "But, I don't want to go!"
She starts to tear up.
Me: "Well, it's not my decision. If you don't want to go then you'll have to write the school board."
Little Bit leaves the room and then comes back in with a pen and a piece of paper. She writes this note:

"Please let Little Bit Donts Go to School that her tuimy hres."
(Please don't let Little Bit go to school; her tummy hurts.")

Me: "Look! The school board doesn't meet for another couple of weeks, I'm sure. So, you're still going to have to go. Now, what's the real reason you don't want to go."

Little Bit and I had a talk and she told me through big sobbing tears that Mean Kid has been mean to her in P.E. a lot lately. Thus, she didn't want to go to school anymore. We talked more and I told her that I would go with her to school and we would talk to the coach if she wanted.

Well, this morning came and Little Bit asked me over breakfast if I was still going into the school with her. I said yes, if she wanted me to do so. Little Bit held my hand through the whole school parking lot. In the hallway leading to the cafenasium (cafeteria/gymnasium), she told me she didn't need me to hold her hand.

At the cafenasium door, Little Bit let out a big puff of air and looked up at me with her big blue eyes: "Mom, I think I can handle this myself."
Me: "Are you sure? I don't mind going in with you."
Little Bit: "Yes. I can do it."
Me: "O.K. I love you bunches." I gave her a big hug. "If you need me just go to the office and tell them you're calling your mom."
Little Bit: "I'm o.k." And she marches off to her class.

After school, we get in the car after playing at the park with some friends.
Me: "Well? How was p.e. today?"
Little Bit, happily: "Fine. We ran today."
Me: "Oh, and you like that?"
Little Bit: "Yes. That's fun."
Me: "Well, how was Mean Kid today?"
Little Bit: "He got put in the peddling box today for passing everyone while running. He gets in the peddling box almost every p.e."
Me: "Do you mean the penalty box?"
Little Bit: "Yes. The peddling box."
Me: "Well, I'm glad you had a good day."
Little Bit: "I did."

things i learned about hurricanes

Things I learned about hurricanes...

  1. Hurricanes make women need pedicures and that is the first thing you do after a hurricane. Forget if the grocery store is open, what about the spa? is the big question.
  2. You should buy 4 times the food and adult drinks that you think you need for a hurricane, because you will be having many cookouts/get-togethers/parties while your electricity is out and no one is going to work/school.
  3. You will become sick of hurricanes and will have switched to beer by the time the electricity comes back on and everyone goes back to work.
  4. You will actually be excited for the first time ever in your life to do laundry. I know I'm still in a state of shock over it.
  5. I learned that my neighbor thinks I bake. She offered me to use her oven. I told her I don't know how to use it, but would like to borrow her blender.
  6. You should stock up on children's birthday gifts, as the party will still be happening and kids are not excited about receiving trash bags, bottled water, batteries, and flashlights, even if their parents are stoked up about it.
  7. My man knows how to wash dishes.
  8. That breakfast is good when shared with others.
  9. That I can be possessive of the "good rake."
  10. That going to church without electricity after the hurricane is like the part of the cartoon "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" when all the Who's come out of their homes and hold hands and sing. It's really a cool feeling.
  11. That when a disaster happens, it's good to have cash handy. Especially in singles, in order to pay your kids and the neighbor kids to help you pick up limbs and stuff. And quarters if they do a bad job.
  12. That really all we need is a bunch of sticks to entertain our children for a week without electricity. And to not mess with those sticks, because they are really important to those kids.
  13. That when you don't have electricity and others do, they feel guilty and will do your laundry. (I LOVE YOU SANDY!!!!) I think I might cut the electric cable. :)
  14. That my dog thinks he's made it into the house to become a house dog. If I don't cut the electric cable, my dog will first.
  15. After a week of no electricity (ok 8 days but who's counting), you really don't care if it's turned on, if you have no cable to watch TV and surf the Internet.
  16. That I have some really great friends and neighbors that have really helped us out and I really appreciate it. Plus, we really enjoyed hanging out with everyone and getting to know everyone better.

BACK ON

The electricity just came back on!!!! YIPIEEE!!! Everything is fine here in our household, following Hurricane Ike. We've lost a few trees in the yard and one on the house. But, nothing that cannot be fixed. I'll post some pics later. The kids are out of school for the whole week, so they are excited. And we've been enjoying hanging with friends and neighbors. And thankfully, there is a cold snap, so we've been in the 70's with clear skies in the morning time while we do the yard work. And haven't had much rain since the hurricane, so the buckets require less empting. YEA!!! Thank God for electricity!!!
