still about china

The Beijing Penninsula...what a fantastic hotel!!! I think this was one of the nicest hotels I've ever stayed in. Plus, it was in walking distance to everything. But, we always took a taxi. My Houston skin is NOT used to the cold wind. We were going to walk to the forbidden city, but only got one and a half city blocks before we had to turn back. I got wind burn in that short of a distance. It was soooo cold. But, was totally worth going to visit. After visiting the forbidden city. Then we walked around Tinnamen Square and by Mao's tomb. Most of the building were closed around there because their government was in session for the 15 days after the Chineese New Year. In fact, the first night at this hotel was the festival of the Lanterns, so we got to see the biggest display of fireworks that night. In fact, on the trip we saw fireworks almost every night. They were in celebration of the new year for the 15 days. It was pretty neat!
