We planted a quasi-garden this year. We being Little Bit and myself.
In the flowerbed behind the screened in porch, along the fence line, we planted 2 broccoli plants, 2 bell pepper plants (because I thought they might do well, not because I like bell pepper), 1 banana pepper plant (because that's what you plant in a garden or so it seems to me), 1 jalapeño plant (because we live in Houston, and that's what we Houstonians plant in our quasi-gardens), some asparagus (i'll be surprised if anything makes of this, but i thought i'd give it a go anyway), some strawberry plants (if these make, then we will prove the idea of miracles), and potatoes (an homage to Mamaw, and talked about Mamaw and her potatoes when planting). Little Bit planted all of the potatoes. She liked planting them the most, I think.
In two containers on the patio, we planted in the first one, two types of lettuce, from seed. And in the second container, we planted 1 mint plant, and cilantro seed, and dill weed seed.
And along the fence by our neighbor's yard in the flower bed, we still needed to plant a patch of onions. The bulb bag of onions comes with 90 bulbs. So, we ran out of room in the other flower bed. Thus, we planted these in this spot, where I can look out my bedroom window and see our onions. Daisy did a great job helping me plant the onions, too.
And now for the results, thus far…
- The lettuce container is full of little lettuce baby leaves just popping out of the ground.
- The dill weed has a few popping up.
- And the onions already have one inch sprouts shooting up out of the soil!!!
Everything else is doing it's thing. Although, we have something already munching a little on the leaves of the mint, the broccoli, and the pepper plants? But, not a lot of munching. So, I'd say we're doing well with our quasi-garden.
