misty morning

This morning I was somewhat misty eyed, as my husband loaded up our children into the car to drive them to school.

I don't know what made me feel this way. I didn't cry on their first day back to school this year.

Maybe it was that I, for that fleeting moment, really appreciated our sitting around the breakfast table engaged in happy conversations about everyone's upcoming birthdays. It was a very pleasant morning, with my children stuffing their faces with fruit and pancakes and gleefully telling me who they wanted to come to their birthday parties and what theme they wanted. Pirates of the Caribean and Hello Kitty, you can guess who wanted what.

Maybe, it was that I realized that Big Kid will reach the decade mark this year, and Little Bit wasn't far behind. Where did that time go? Watching them load up in M's car after freely giving me big hugs and kisses and the buzz and excitement of going to school in their Daddy's car. What a special morning they were having. How very happy they were. How much they have grown up.

Rats. I'm misty again.
