Things I learned about hurricanes...
- Hurricanes make women need pedicures and that is the first thing you do after a hurricane. Forget if the grocery store is open, what about the spa? is the big question.
- You should buy 4 times the food and adult drinks that you think you need for a hurricane, because you will be having many cookouts/get-togethers/parties while your electricity is out and no one is going to work/school.
- You will become sick of hurricanes and will have switched to beer by the time the electricity comes back on and everyone goes back to work.
- You will actually be excited for the first time ever in your life to do laundry. I know I'm still in a state of shock over it.
- I learned that my neighbor thinks I bake. She offered me to use her oven. I told her I don't know how to use it, but would like to borrow her blender.
- You should stock up on children's birthday gifts, as the party will still be happening and kids are not excited about receiving trash bags, bottled water, batteries, and flashlights, even if their parents are stoked up about it.
- My man knows how to wash dishes.
- That breakfast is good when shared with others.
- That I can be possessive of the "good rake."
- That going to church without electricity after the hurricane is like the part of the cartoon "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" when all the Who's come out of their homes and hold hands and sing. It's really a cool feeling.
- That when a disaster happens, it's good to have cash handy. Especially in singles, in order to pay your kids and the neighbor kids to help you pick up limbs and stuff. And quarters if they do a bad job.
- That really all we need is a bunch of sticks to entertain our children for a week without electricity. And to not mess with those sticks, because they are really important to those kids.
- That when you don't have electricity and others do, they feel guilty and will do your laundry. (I LOVE YOU SANDY!!!!) I think I might cut the electric cable. :)
- That my dog thinks he's made it into the house to become a house dog. If I don't cut the electric cable, my dog will first.
- After a week of no electricity (ok 8 days but who's counting), you really don't care if it's turned on, if you have no cable to watch TV and surf the Internet.
- That I have some really great friends and neighbors that have really helped us out and I really appreciate it. Plus, we really enjoyed hanging out with everyone and getting to know everyone better.
