The tooth fairy will strike tonight!

This morning Big Kid woke up with a tooth in his mouth. Not suprising, you say? Well, this tooth was not attached and not swallowed when he woke up, so I'd say it's a little suprising. Big Kid said he was suprised.

So, tonight as we're preparing for bed, Big Kid was inspecting his tooth. I told him to put it on his shelf, so the tooth fairy could find it real easy like.

Little Bit was listening in on the conversation, because it was much more interesting than the book she was having to read for school.

Little Bit piped up, "I still have a tooth."
Me: "What?"
Little Bit: "I have two teeth that the tooth fairy hasn't gotten. One downstairs and one in the car."
Me: "How did the tooth fairy not get them? Did you put them under your pillow?"
Little Bit: "Yea. But the tooth fairy didn't get them."
Me: "Are you sure? Did the tooth fairy leave you money and just forget the tooth, maybe?"
Little Bit: "No, I never got any money and I still have the teeth. I'll go get them."
Me: "No, you have to finish reading first."
I caught her ploy. She was going to read those 15 pages.
Me: "Afterwards you can get your teeth."
Little Bit: "I'll get the one downstairs tonight. I don't want to go out to the car."
Me: "Ok. When you finish reading."

Little Bit finished her reading and ran downstairs for the tooth. She came back with the tooth in a little pink box.
Little Bit: "Hold on, I'm going to put the tooth in this green box that is broken. I keep this pink box."
She dug a little green treasure box out of a drawer and exchaged the tooth into the broken box.

Big Kid: "Let me see that tooth."
Big Kid had come into the room, because like his little sister he was interested in getting out of something. This something was going to bed.
Little Bit: "He's going to loose it!"
He had already grabbed it out of her hand.
Me: "Don't worry. If he looses it, then you can have his tooth to give the tooth fairy."
Big Kid: "Are you sure you didn't get money for this tooth?"

Big Kid held up the tooth with the one long root. This is the tooth that Little Bit had pulled at the dentist just before Christmas. I know the tooth fairy had left her money for that tooth. In fact, I was sure of it. But, it had been a horrid affair, so if the tooth fairy had to come twice then so be it.

Me: "Well, ok. Here put it back in the box. And set it close to the edge so the tooth fairy can find it." I helped her put it close to the edge of the bed and felt of where it will be later tonight; or so I hope.

Then I went into Big Kid's room. Big Kid had jumped into his bed. I picked up his tooth and put it on the shelf.

Me: "This will be a good place for the tooth fairy to find the tooth, don't you think?"

I gave him a little wink. Big Kid leaned his head down and forward and held up his index finger and waggled it for me to come close. I leaned in and he whispered, "Do you think you could leave the tooth here and then I could show it to Dad tomorrow?" I nodded yes. And turned out the lights.

Thankfully, I happen to have found two dollars laying around. The regular tooth fairy has set up a high standard and is out on other work duty tonight, so the sub-tooth fairy is waiting patiently for some sleepy eyes.
